Grasping at a Thread
Project type
Watercolor and Colored Pencil
Date
Fall 2020
This piece is founded on the concept of despair. It investigates a visual representation of what it feels to be confused and at a loss, where one can’t decide which thread to pull or which direction to go. This work was particularly cathartic for me, and I think it communicates a process and idea that many people experience, yet can't put into word or image. In using the red piece of fabric, I envisioned it as life's wants and goals, a simplified imagining of all of the choices and decisions we are required to make on a daily basis. The hands and skull are made to represent the humanness in that process, the indecisiveness and desires that dictate how we lead ourselves out of despair and loss.
